Do your personal dental goals include:
- A flashy, natural smile
- Accepting only minimally invasive dental procedures
- Paying minimal dental bills
- Averting the negative general health implications that arise from poor oral health or aggressive dentistry?
Then you came to the right place! As you might have noticed, most dental interventions are aggressive almost by definition, right? Cavalier amputation of healthy tooth structure along with compromised areas of teeth due to decay is so common it’s expected. It’s easy, what dentists were taught and commands high fees – but is often unnecessary. And that’s just the beginning. As a patient flipping through my first book, Mouth Matters, in the reception area years ago said, “I thought everything in dentistry was all settled!”
Not by a l-o-n-g shot!
Dentistry may not have initially grabbed my soul because I hadn’t experienced dental problems growing up (that I knew of), but subsequent decades from my bird’s eye view of the profession led me to answers far removed from what I learned in dental school.
My 25- year “insider” position within dentistry, allowed me to critically observe what did and didn’t work in dentistry. As a deeply loving mother who avidly researched best practices for raising healthy children, I blended my concerns and dental/general health knowledge and realized I required better answers! Thus began my journey to seek top researchers in dentistry, each of whom had recognized a particular problem within traditional dental approaches and spent decades forging more workable, gentle practices. These brilliant practitioners, all of whom similarly prefer to seek and treat root causes, generously became my mentors.
Learning astonishing new approaches to almost all aspects of health and dentistry, I’ve woven together a cohesive “whole” picture – the warp and weft dance of general health and oral health because too often, it is easy for most of us, including “biological” practitioners, to adopt a myopic view of health.
As an example, many of my past patients say they are doing a mercury or heavy metal detox. Sometimes it is a DIY project and sometimes they work with a practitioner. The bad news though is that no one I know first tests for and treats sleep apnea if it is present, a potentially devastating mistake as you’ll see here in my blog.
